58Թ Welcomes Young Talent this Summer
The halls at the 58Թ weren’t empty for long, as 58Թ’s Young Composers Program and Summer Sonata got underway this week. Both programs bring in top young musicians to study in weeklong intensives which culminate in recitals in Mixon Hall. “The Young Composers Program and Summer Sonata are excellent opportunities for aspiring young musicians to study with world class performers and teachers in a musically rich environment that nurtures creativity, communication, collaboration and craft,” says Marci Alegant, Director of Preparatory and Continuing Education at 58Թ. “We look forward to welcoming students and families to 58Թ this summer!”
The Young Composers Program directed by Keith Fitch, head of 58Թ’s composition department, invites young composition students to immerse themselves in the world of contemporary music, learning about the field of new music while developing creative and professional skills. Through lessons, seminars and discussions, participants learn about the craft of composition. The program culminates in two concerts on Friday, June 17 at 7:30pm and on Saturday, June 18 at 12pm, both in Mixon Hall.
Head of the preparatory piano division, Sean Schulze, directs the Summer Sonata program at 58Թ which draws on 58Թ’s distinguished Preparatory and Conservatory faculty as coaches who work with young pianists. The program provides the ideal environment for young students to nourish and improve their musical skills and concludes with a final recital in Mixon Hall on Saturday, June 18 at 7pm.
