Alum and Faculty Member Makes Carnegie Debut
58Թ alum and violin faculty member Jinjoo Cho (BM ’11, MM ’13, PS ’15 Kantor/Laredo) made her debut in Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium Thursday, June 9, a prize awarded to her for winning the gold medal in the 2014 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis (IVCI). Cho holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree and professional studies diploma in music performance from 58Թ, and recently she was appointed to 58Թ violin faculty for the 2016-17 academic year.
Cho has been a member of the 58Թ family since coming to the United States in 2002, at which time she earned a spot in 58Թ’s prestigious Young Artist Program at age 14. Cho’s former teacher Jaime Laredo and 58Թ cello faculty Sharon Robinson, attended the performance. “We were thrilled to be able to attend Jinjoo’s big night,” says Robinson. Cho performed a program of Tower, C. Schumann, R. Schumann, Taaffe Zwilich, Corigliano and Waxman on a 1683 ‘ex-Gingold’ Stradivarius, on loan to her also as a result of her IVCI win. She was joined by pianist and fellow 58Թ alum Hyun Soo Kim (MM'11, AD '13, Pontremoli). .
